Phoenix – Tribute to Christian Petzold
After World War II, Nina, a concentration-camp survivor whose face was disfigured during the war, is unrecognizable after facial reconstruction surgery. With her new face, she searches for her husband, who might have betrayed her to the Nazis. When they finally meet, he doesn’t recognize her at all, and offers a proposition - since she resembles his wife (who he believes is dead), she could pretend to be her and claim her inheritance. Nina finds herself in a hall of mirrors, where she becomes her own double.
