For generations of students and lecturers at The Steve Tisch School of Film and Television, Reuven Hecker has been – and is still – more than a valued teacher and filmmaker: he epitomizes a way and inspires all to meet challenges and combine seriousness and values in both teaching and creation.

As both a lecturer and head of department, Hecker was firm and decisive but no less attentive and kind. He sought and found new ways to promote the school, the past and present students and the International Student Film Festival. As a respected commander in the IDF army before he turned to cinema, he has always known how to separate the wheat/grain from the chaff and especially to practice what you preach.

As a student of documentary filmmaker David Perlov, Hecker made sure to develop deep and serious thinking as an important element in art, teaching and each and every deed. He took care to perpetuate and pass on this legacy to generations of students. As a filmmaker, he takes an in-depth look at the history and present of the State of Israel, alongside engaging in the world of culture and music. As a lecturer and creator, he always made sure to voice his opinion without forcing it, while instilling the values of independent thinking and hard and serious work.

He never ceased working and always enriched his own knowledge, as well as his students’, giving those around him work methods that would continue to guide the school even after his retirement: just as the advice he gave his many students continues to guide them in their work after graduation.

Many generations of students, lecturers and employees in the department thank Reuven Hecker for his generous contribution and salute him for his kind and honest character.

The event will be held in Hebrew.
