I Was at Home, But… + Q&A
Winner of the Silver Bear Prize for Best Director, Berlinale 2019.
An enigmatic and minimalist vision with powerful emotional clarity. Astrid, a mother of two in her 40s, struggles to regain her balance two years after her husband’s death. Now, her teenage son is back after disappearing for a week. Angela Schanelec develops the psychological paths of the characters in surprising directions, with wide shots and fragmented editing, leaving a lot to the viewers’ imagination. Everyday experiences crystallize into a delicate picture of a Berlin family in a crisis, dealing with fundamental questions of existence.
