Wolfgang Thaler
Wolfgang Thaler is an acclaimed cinematographer and one of the most distinctive visual voices of his generation. A graduate of the Film Academy Vienna in the 1980s, he has worked extensively across fiction and documentary cinema. His long-standing collaborations with directors Michael Glawogger (Megacities, Workingman’s Death, and Whores’ Glory) and Ulrich Seidl (Dog Days, Import/Export, the Paradise trilogy, Safari) have left a lasting mark on contemporary European film. In recent years, he shot the critically acclaimed Netflix series Unorthodox and Transatlantic. From 2008 to 2023, he taught cinematography at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Thaler has served as a jury member at major festivals, including Camerimage, where he also presided over the Documentary Features Competition.
