Toma and Ana fall deeply in love while studying literature at university. But soon, reality, with all its complexities, sets in. The initial excitement dulls as sediments from the past surface in the form of Ana’s mental trauma, and Toma’s father’s objection to the relationship. As time goes by, the line between love and dependency, intimacy and alienation, blurs.
The non-linear narrative is intercepted with scenes of therapy sessions in which Toma – together with director and audience – strives to better understand what has occurred.
The film screened at this year’s Berlinale, winning the Alfred Bauer Prize for Outstanding Artistic Contribution.
